clare and ian – crowne plaza hotel edinburgh

Last weekend I got to visit one of Edinburghs most gloriously situated venues, the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Royal Terrace, for the gorgeous wedding of Clare and Ian. After an emergency pit-stop at McDonalds (if I need to eat, I eat) I headed to the brides room while Joey snuck around hoping to catch some shots of wedding guests in their natural habitat. I put myself into my usual window nook with the details and got to work while all around me the hustle and bustle of the wedding morning continued. Clare was a remarkably calm bride, holding everyone together, making sure people were fed and that they had everything they needed.

There had been a cloudy start to the day but the sun broke through as Clare and Ian made their way down the aisle, which I thought was a nice touch. Since we had seen thunderstorms in the days leading up to the wedding, this was something of a relief! We were able to stay outside for most of the day, only going indoors to eat, which is basically a dream for me and my obsession with natural light.

Thanks to the efforts of chief people-herder Rachel, group photos were a breeze (once the essential person for the first five photos was eventually located, which is pretty much a wedding tradition at this point and to be expected). After that I couldn’t help dragging Clare and Ian around to the front of the hotel to get a shot of them on Royal Terrace; I love greenery and natural locations but if I’m in a beautiful city like Edinburgh then we absolutely must get some photos out and about on the street. I’m pretty sure that’s a law or something.

After speeches and dinner I discovered that we had that rare beast – a sunset in Scotland. Lucky duckies! After some romantic portraits with all that lovely glow, we went inside to tear up the dance floor and I’m pretty sure the party continued for a long while after Joey and I had to make our way home!
